Hi all.

We are in Monte Carlo for 2 days in August

How far is the walk to the rental car companies from the cruise dock?Looks like Hertz ,Avis and Europcar seem to be the companies near by.

Europcar seems to be the best for us as they appear to have a late drop off - 9pm+.We may only rent for the first day and walk around Monte Carlo the second day.

We want to go out and see the old villages and also bob in and out of the local food / wine stores.Any itineraries / suggestions would be most welcome. We are very fit and energetic.

Thanks for any reply's

Rich

We have rented from Hertz a couple of times--late drop-off was no problem--they told us to park the car anywhere on nearby streets and then drop the keys/contract off at the office with a note as to the car's whereabouts--never been a problem. Pretty convenient location, on the Quai Albert 1er ( "Albert 'preh-mee-air'"), which is the bottom (top) part of the inverted "U" that forms the harbour--about a 10-15 minute walk from the ship (or tender drop-off).

We have driven up and along the corniche ('cliff-side road') to La Turbie (huge Roman triumphant arch(), to Eze (fun medieval village on a rocky promontory), or on to Vence/St. Paul de Vence (interesting hilltop villages, Matisse chapel, Fondation Maeght (modern art/sculpture), great shops/cafes/restaurants), to Nice (beaches, market/old town, Matisse and Chagall museums, great 'flavour'). With enough time, you could drive back from Nice via the shore road (D6098), and maybe detour off to Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat.

Plus, having a car is fun in Monaco, as you can drive the streets of the Formula 1 course and pretend you're Michael Schumacher! Drive to the casino and see all the cars owned by deposed dicators' sons (of course, the French Riviera is their habitat of choice!)

Enjoy your day!

Thank you for the reply.

I may go with Eoropcar as they have a GPS rental.Hertz doesn't have a GPS as far as I can tell.

I am not sure how far Europecar is from the dock.
