Honolulu luau..getting there

We dock in Honolulu and want to see a luau. How would we get there? Are there excursions or do we call a cab? Never done this before and do not want to rent a car.

Ships tours go to the PCC Polynesian Cultural Center. It's a long day tour with luau and is supposed to be the best.

DS and DIL went for the 2nd time in April and loved it. The day is too long for my health issues, or I would have gone with them.

It is not near the pier. I think taxi or ship's tour is the best. Honolulu has alot of traffic. DS and DIL took the ship's tour, and they were the last excursion back on the ship before sailaway.

Polynesian Cultural Center is not your typical luau. While I love PCC, I don't care for their luau. The show is superb, but to me it isn't the typical luau.

 

I would try to go to Paradise Cove Luau. They show you the arts and crafts of Hawaii (lei making, hookilau, cooking the pig in the ground, and of course the traditional dancing). But it appeared to be more about the Hawaiian Culture rather than just a big dramatic show presentation.

 

I would plan a few days in Honolulu before the cruise and just sign up at your hotel for the luau. A cab would be tooooo expensive to try and take, but they usually have tour buses that will come for the hotel pick-up.

 

If just a port day, watch your time in port, to be sure not to miss the ship after the luau. Check your cruiseline to see what tours they offer.
