Oasis of the Seas July,2012

Recommended Posts

We sailed on the Oasis in July with 12 adults and 9 children age 11-15. The kids loved the Flow Rider, zip line and sports deck but the pools on sea days were too packed to use unless you went early am or late in day. Falmouth,Jamaica not a great port-- to go to a nice beach was an hour ride. Kids and adults loved the zip line on Labadee.Hair Spray, diving shows and comedy show very good .Adult activities started too late ,11 pm or later. The Adventure Teen Club was HORRIBLE. The kids have been on other cruises and had loved the Adventure Ocean clubs and were looking forward to moving up to young teen area. Events were cancelled at the last minute, staff who could care less--texting or using phones instead of paying attention to kids and very few group activities geared to young teens--they were told to sit and "mingle and talk" to get to know people--they're 12-14 year olds who love participating in group sports or games and there were so few of those that the kids hardly spent any time at the teen club . Cruise director,Amy, our least favorite cruise director of all the many cruises we have been on with RC. Everyone did have a great time--we all made it fun as a group. The kids said that other than the Boardwalk, zip line and diving show, they liked the Liberty of the Seas better.

AndreaXray - Thank you for your review. I'll be on the Oasis for the first time in September and I'm eagerly looking forward to it, however, I'm particularly interested in your opinion of the CD Amy Fickert. There is an entire thread on CC about her, many of the reviews were unfavorable. What specifically did you not like about her?

We felt that she was not as polished or professional in her attitude as other CDs have been. Her "booty" shaking got old and repetative. We were near her on 2 occassions when she was being asked questions by passengers and she seemed a little annoyed to be delayed in making her exit from the event. There was something almost phony feeling about her. Her hosting of the Love and Marriage show was horrible .The incident that really made us not respect her as CD was when we were at the Quest and were seated in a section with 30 or 40 people who were excited to be having a fun evening. One of the quests was to show a form of birthcontrol--one woman went up to Amy along with the team captain and said that she was a lesbian and that was a form of birthcontrol. Amy replied to the woman "for that I'll take 100 points away from your team".She didn't say it into the microphone nor did she deduct points(which we have never seen done on any ship except at this quest) but when the guest and the team captain came back into the group section and relayed what was said, people were appalled at the negative and disparaging comment made to a passenger. It definitely influenced our opinion of Amy and made us wonder how someone in her capacity could be so insensitive or demeaning to any guest.

I'm so happy that Amy won't be the CD on my October cruise!! From everything I've read about her, she is insanely annoying.

I guess nobody wants pictures of her as even Googling images doesn't result in a photo. Seriously, you can Google just about anybody and see pictures. This woman is CD of one of the largest cruise ships on planet earth and can't find a single one. Apparently, there are just some people passengers would rather forget.

I am on the Oasis on Sept 29th, how do you find out who the CD is on that cruise..

Hey snowflakes...there is a thread that you can't miss that shows a fairly current list of Cruise Directors for RCI for the rest of this year on all of their ships. Look for it.... :)
