Skagway -- biking on our own?

I was just wondering what you folks thought about renting bikes and heading from Skagway to Dyea on our own. I read somewhere (and now I can't find where) that its about 10 miles, hilly, but very scenic. Given that, on a (really) slow day, I do a 20 miles in 2 hours, that seems very doable. But does anyone know: (1) Is it really a 10 mile ride and how hilly is it? (2) What are the road conditions like on the way?, and (3) Are there alternate (better?) routes out of Skagway that we ought to consider?

Thanks!
