Bergen Hotel Ideas

Recommended Posts

I will be in Bergen one night in March when I'll need a hotel - or a B&B or an Inn. Any ideas or recommendations? I don't want or need fancy, just safe and clean.

Thanks.

I've used 3 hotels in Bergen, within walking distance of the harbour & tourist areas for most people. Decide what you're needing and take a look:

Hotell Grand Terminus, opposite the railway station, historic hotel with good service and bar/coffee lounge where you can sit in comfort.

Augustin Hotel (sister to above). Comfortable and friendly with lounge where waffles were available in the afternoon for residents.

Hordaheimen, an interesting hotel that was built by the Norwegian Young Farmers, member of the Best Western group. No lounge as such, affordable Norwegian-style restaurant.

I like all 3 and choose according to where I need to be (near the station or fast ferries etc) and how long I'm staying for. The first 2 can be booked direct or via Fjord Tours and you'll get a good discount if you hold the Fjord Pass. Sometimes hotels in Bergen don't serve dinner on certain nights so it is worth asking in advance. There are lots of other places to eat.

If you're going to have time to explore and want to access museums and visitor attractions, it's worth getting a Bergen Card. In the winter this can mean free entry into many attractions and it also gives you free public transport on many routes. I love Bergen in winter!

You can see our blog entries in Bergen, probably best to look 31 March when we arrive for a couple of days before joining Hurtigruten's Finnmarken and we're back on a few other occasions in 2012.

As I noted on another thread to you, we didn't stay overnight there, but my best general suggestion is to check:

http://www.hotels.com

for the specific dates you need.

For other considering Bergen or other cities, I suggest using Google.com maps to verify the various potential locations and go for handy, convenient. Smaller and local can many times be more fun and interesting than just the bigger name chains. You could also Google for Bergen and B&B to see your options. Since it just you traveling, a B&B might be worth considering and allow a better way to connection with people in Norway.

THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio
