henny Posted December 15, 2012 #1 Share Posted December 15, 2012 My Dad REALLY wants to do a bike ride on our trip and Grand Cayman looks like the best place to do this of our stops. It's not been easy to find info but I have found Cayman Cycle Rentals at Coconut Place. From there to the Turtle Farm looks like it's about 5 miles. From reading on the web I'm a little concerned about traffic but I'm hoping that this is far enough away from town that the traffic will be lessoned. Can anyone tell me if this would be the case or is traffic bad in this area? My Dad rides his bike daily in Arizona a minimum of 12 miles a day and usually one day a week does 50+ miles so he has a lot of experience biking. My husband and 11 year old son would be going with him. Both are very capable of riding this distance although don't ride as much as my dad. I'm looking for feedback on whether this is doable. Obviously don't want them doing it if it isn't safe.
TurtleTagger Posted December 15, 2012 #2 Share Posted December 15, 2012 The corridor from Coconut Place (will need to take a taxi from port to get there) to the Turtle Farm is along the busiest stretch of road on the island, with little or no shoulder in many sections. I would not be comfortable biking that route.
henny Posted December 15, 2012 Author #3 Share Posted December 15, 2012 OK. That's the info I needed and doesn't sound like it's a good idea. Would you advise a route on the island that would be good to bike? I'm thinking I need to bag the biking idea.
