aanselm Posted June 5, 2005 #1 Share Posted June 5, 2005 Does anyone know how long it takes to get from Southampton Train Station to Southampton Pier? What's are the different modes of tansportation? Taxi, bus, subway, walking? Any guestimates on prices? Would appreciate the input of those in the know. Thanks AA. July 1 2005 sailing of the British Isles. Logie Posted June 5, 2005 #2 Share Posted June 5, 2005 Hi Ann, How are you!! I can't believe I am going to miss you by one cruise. I am going on June 11th. How is teaching and everything else going? Anyone else going on this cruise with you? I think even if you can get the train to South Hampton you still have to take a taxi to the ship and I have no idea how much. I am staying one night in London and there are 5 of us so we have hired a car to take and it is 120 pounds. There price from the ship to Heathrow is 90 pounds. I am sure there will be some good information as the season gets underway. We are on the British Isles what cruise is yours? Going back to the Med on the Grand next July 25th, cant wait!!! Hope to see you again!!!
aanselm Posted June 5, 2005 Author #3 Share Posted June 5, 2005 This is too funny!! Great to hear from you. All is well over here. Saw Karen in Detroit last winter on my way to the Caribbean for a pre-Christmas cruise. Your cruise and your sailing on the Golden was my initial choice, and I was so looking forward to being in the Golden again. However, my roomie had a change of plan and I so decided to do Scandinavia/Russia on the Star, June 14. However, I still want to do the British Isles (in addition to Scandinavia) and if I find a cruise mate for that one, even last minute, I will just spend a week in London in between and do that as well. I have arranged my air ticket to give me the flexibility. I think it would have been just funny if I was on your cruise and just ran into you on board. LOL. Is your friend still on the Golden? You are doing the Med again July 2005 or 2006? That's definitely one I hope to do again. Anyway.. have a great cruise. The itinerary is very interesting and I think the ports will be just beatiful. Wish me luck in convincing my Mom or one of my friends to do the July 1 British Isles sailing with me. If I do not find a cruisemate, I will just spend 2 weeks in Thailand on the beach. Either way, I will be happy. Happy Sailing, AA. PS: As you can see, Princess is growing on me.. though it is not yet my favorite.
Globaliser Posted June 5, 2005 #4 Share Posted June 5, 2005 Does anyone know how long it takes to get from Southampton Train Station to Southampton Pier? What's are the different modes of tansportation? Taxi, bus, subway, walking? Any guestimates on prices? 5 minutes by taxi, 10 if you're unlucky. I can't remember how much I paid last time, but it was something like £5 each way - definitely single figures.

Logie Posted June 5, 2005 #6 Share Posted June 5, 2005 AA I sure hope you can get someone to go on the cruise with you this year, but if not my group is going July 25th on the Grand 2006. It would be great if you could join us. A lot has changed since I saw you last. Ironically I met someone else on the Grand for my New Years cruise not this last one but the year before and we have dated since. He is Canadian and currently working there. He does not have as much time off as I do so luckily he let's me cruise with my friends. He will be on the next New Years cruise this year and on the Med cruise next summer if all works out as planned. There is a guy in the casino named Jason on the Star stay away from him at all costs and feel free to give him a dirty look if you see him in the casino. Long story about my best freinds experience with him - he is a real loser- be sure you or your freinds stay away from him. Other than that the Star is my favorite ship and you will like it hopefully. Glad to see you keep giving it a chance. They have some great stone beds in the spa area the Golden does not have-check them out-great for relaxing~~~ Keep in touch!! shellyc Posted June 6, 2005 #7 Share Posted June 6, 2005 We just got back from the 5/22 Golden and we took a taxi to and from the train station. We paid 4 pounds each way. The drive was 5 minutes. On the return the lift was broken at the station, so an employee helped us carry our bags to the north bound platform. The train to/from Victoria took 2 hours. Train service is excellent. We took Southern, Gatwick Express and Eurostar during our 18 day journey. On 5/22 we just purchased 2 one way tickets from Victoria, but on the post-cruse stayvwe bought a Brit Rail London pass. seasrk Posted March 15, 2006 #10 Share Posted March 15, 2006 Hi Lynn (Logie), You mentioned hiring a private car to take 5 of you from London to Southampton for 120 pounds. What company? How do I contact them? We're on the Golden Princess on Aug. 30 and will spend a few days in London before hand. There are 4 of us. Also, do you know any company we can hire to spend a day touring the Cotswolds? Thank you. Seas
