St John, hike and beach time possible?

Hello all,

Planning to be there (cruise) late November and was contemplating what to do. We are looking for a beautiful but uncrowded beach with powdery sand and warm clear waters. Saw at Vinox.com that there is a trail called Lind Point Hiking Trail. Was thinking of maybe taking a cab to visitor center, follow trail (and hopefully have many great picture spots) down to honeymoon beach (is it what we are looking for?) then go to caneel bay for some more beach and some food before heading back to catch ferry. Also saw some where about waterlemon or something like that being one of the best beaches. Maybe past guest or locals (islander ;) ) can provide a top three 'uncrowed' beaches. I have been to Trunk Bay and yes it was amazing but was hoping to do the less traveled road and hopefully discover something even more beautiful.

Please keep in mind our ship is in port from 9AM to 5PM.

Also, are there any safety concerns. We are a small group and since we hope to be off the beaten path this is always a consideration.

Thanks for any help!

Hello,

The Visitor Center is in walking distance from the passenger ferry dock so no taxi necessary. You just turn turn left when exiting the dock, then turn right at the corner and then another left, walk a short distance and then you'll see the Visitor Center on the left.

From Lind Point Trail there is an overlook with a bench - it looks over Cruz Bay. Nice spot. Its a little loop on the left of the trail, so you could potentially miss it. You can stop at Soloman Bay (its known for nude bathing, so if you are opposed to that then don't go) on the way to Honeymoon. So three beaches Soloman, then Honeymoon then Caneel Bay. The restaurant at Caneel Bay is a restaurant (not a beach shack type set up like at Trunk Bay)so if you are wet and sandy you might pop into their restroom and tidy up a bit if you feel the need to.

You can take a taxi from Caneel Bay back to town, rather then hiking back.

That is a great day.

Waterlemon is a great spot for snorkeling, the beach is ok too. Its a bit of a trek to get to.

Beaches on St. John outside of Trunk Bay and Cinnamon Bay are often uncrowded. Solomon, Honeymoon, Maho, Jumbie, Saltpond Bay... all usually sparsely populated. And then you have others that are a bit more difficult to get to (taxis don't go there, partly dirt road) like Lameshur that is again often empty but would be difficult for cruise passengers, unless you rented a jeep.

So I think your idea is a good one, to hike Lind Point, stop at the two or three beaches and then have lunch. Great day. No safety issues with that plan, except bring adequate water for everyone hiking, wear sunblock and hats, don't get off the trail and start going through the bush (some bushes aren't friendly and can cause itching or have thorns).

Have a good time.

Thanks for the great info!!

Hopefully I can get some great photos, relax a lot, and not have to walk too much.

PS Being your typical male, nudity is not a problem as long as its good looking women :p Otherwise we marching on.
