Cocoa balls?

Recommended Posts

bought some cocoa balls from the spice shop, as i quite fancied trying them. Recommends 3-4 cups of water, and to drop ball into water and boil for 5 mins.

so used 3 cups. although they smell delicious, they taste of nothing, and even though strained as stated, you still get gritty bits in the drink. So don't be tempted to buy them just because they smell like chocolate.

The recipe included with these are really just for chocolate tea which isn't really to my taste either but.....

1/2 cup grated local cocoa stick

2 cups water

1 cup milk (cream, evaporated, powdered, or low-fat)

Sugar to sweeten

Vanilla

Bay leaf

Cinnamon

Nutmeg

1 Tablespoon cornstarch

Put water to boil with cinnamon and bay leaf. Boil for about 15 minutes. Grate cocoa stick and add to boiling water; boil for another 10 minutes. Add cream (or evaporated milk, powdered milk, or low-fat milk to reduce calories). Sweeten to taste. Mix the cornstarch with water and slowly add to the boiling mixture, stirring all the time. Add vanilla. Strain and serve.

Now that is hot chocolate caribbean style!! Variations include lime juice and/or rum ;)

These smell lovely, really chocolaty but when boiled taste of nothing much:(

Agree they don't really taste of anything if you make the tea but try the recipe for hot chocolate I posted. I think the key is to boil the chocolate for a lot longer than the recipe you get with them which is for tea. The hot chocolate goes down a treat in my house, lovely :)
