jeansaussie1 Posted March 25, 2013 #1 Share Posted March 25, 2013 For those familiar with the area, what route would you recommend from Connecticut to Bayonne for Sunday departure? I95 to I78 I95 to I9 CT15 What kind of tolls are on each? Many thanks Jeansaussie
138east Posted March 26, 2013 #2 Share Posted March 26, 2013 Even on a Sunday my preferred route would be the Merritt Parkway to the Hutchinson River Parkway to the Cross County to the Saw Mill River to the Henry Hudson across the GW Bridge to the NJ Turnpike to Bayonne. Tolls are $4 plus the bridge toll on return. I really dislike I95 through NYC - rough road, some sort of toll, poor signage, construction, trucks, and increased chances of traffic backups. If you're looking to save toll money, your alternative is to get off the Saw Mill onto I87 to go towards the GW bridge. Then get on the Henry Hudson south and take 12th Ave downtown to the Holland Tunnel to the NJ Turnpike two exits to Bayonne. Plan to arrive in Bayonne between 10:30 and 11 am.
