Pre-Cruise: Where to stay near Monaco

My husband and I have never been to the south of France but have been to Monaco. Our ship leaves out of Monaco and we want to stay in a quaint fishing village which is safe and walkable at night not more than 30 or 45 minutes away. We have been to the Italian Riveria which we love, expecially Portofino and Santa Margareta. Does Villefranche sound like a good base to stay for 3 nights? It sounds like from all the post I have read there is easy access to transportation to other villages? Any suggestions?

Villefranche sounds like it would be good for you.Antibes or menton would be 2 other places you could check out as well that may work.Menton is larger,but easy to get around.Antibes would be more on the quaint side. Both are seaside.Enjy the SOF...great place.

Yes, Villefranche is exactly what you describe and I was already thinking of recommending it before I read far enough to see that you are thinking of it.
