Safety in Kingston

The safety situation is like that in most big cities...areas you'll want to avoid (like most Jamaicans themselves), and areas that are fine. The area where the ships dock is near a bad area, but if you can get a cab you should be fine.

Things to do in Kingston (remember it's not exactly a tourist town)

-Devon House (home of Jamaica's first black millionaire, good restaurants, island's renowned ice cream shop, great grounds to read)

-Bob Marley Museum (overrated, but still a can't miss)

-Sovereign Center (shopping center with a movie theatre)

-Lime Cay (small island you'll have to take a boat to, which is the only decent beach in the area). Great fish dishes out there.

Enjoy Kingston, it's enjoyable if you take the same reasonable precautions you would in the New York City...
