Disney Cruise Line

Surely Disney should be supported for the fact that it is one of the few family friendly institutions in the US that is not overtly anti-gay. The company could in some ways be described as anti-discrimination and even pro-gay. Disney's neutrality upsets the Christian right.

I agree - That's why we're doing WDW before our cruise. ;)

With three restarts and two seatings in each, they have 6 'restaurant groups' Disney knows what they are doing, our dinner seating did not have any kids, there are quiet adult pools, nighttime bars for adults only. e loved seeing the kids enjoying, but ewe certainly had our time away from that. Even Castaway Cay has an adults only beach.

Of course if you don't lie kids/families it is not your cup of 'mad hatter' tea….but then you likely would not be a Disney Maniac like me.

Service impeccable, food excellent, kids generally well behaved, no casino and that was just fine. We will go again…and again….and again….

Oh and the gay thing was not a problem, we did not bring it up,,,and it took our dinner companions 4 days to ask (We enjoyed knowing they wanted to ask but were a bit afraid--Cackle cackle!)

As far as Disney not sanctioning Gay Days….well lets just say there is no official proclamation, but the smiles on the faces of the cast members let us know we were among friends. Truthfully I was more offended at how some of the gay day guests acted…Did really need to see a queen on a light pole waving a 'latex imitation of a male private part'…a few of the more immature ones felt the need to be as shocking and offensive as they could be--but I guess that is to be expected. But it was a very small minority. There is a time to be Royalty, and a time to be an Ambassador.

hahaha :D

I'm afraid that's the risk of these gay public events. It's essentially an invitation to the exhibitionists and provocateurs amongst us to let it all hang out. As my mother would say, "why do they have to run around naked?"

I suppose some of us refuse to fit in.

I actually, originally, wanted to go on a Disney cruise for our up and coming honeymoon. I decided not to because it does seem a bit more expensive than some of the other lines.

I think some gay couples may be concerned about the number of kids, or concerns about "will there be enough activities for adults"? And from what everyone has so, there's no issue.

Part of the problem may be, they highlight more of the family and children oriented activities on the website. It's hard to find information if you're two adults going on DCL - or that's my perception.

That said - we're doing 3 days at WDW and then heading to Fort Lauderdale to jump on a Princess cruise. It seems a better fit for what we're looking for.

I think at some point we will do a Disney cruise. Just not this time.

My husband and I recently went on the Dream as part of our honeymoon and we were treated like royalty. The housekeeping staff wrote us a card and decorated our bed with two kissing swans with rose petals all over the bed. When we went to Remys, the staff presented us with a special box of chocolate and an edible congratulations "card" (all writted in French).

It's a bit of a misnomer that DCL is for kids. Disney does a great job in keeping kids in their areas, adults in their areas, and providing a neutral spot for "kids" of all ages to enjoy together. Their daily Navigators have a detailed scheduled divided into three parts: kids activities, adult activites, and activities for everyone.

We were so impressed with our cruise that we went ahead booked 2 additional cruises while on board. This is something we never do.

So don't let the Disney name scare you into thinking it will be a ship full of screaming kids. Except for the shows at night, we hardly ever noticed the kids.
