Hsaroya, I would ask Nikos, he helped organize our day with him. We were first at the Acropolis. Would book him again for sure. We also had a private guide who Nikos organized and he was very good. We were there in Sept, had a port stop for a day.

Thank you. I just sent him an email for a full day quote. Any recollection on cost of driver and tour guide?

Nikos and vehicle for the full day was 400 euro and the private guide for the sites was 250 euro. There was 8 of us so it worked out quite reasonable for the service and quality we received. Vasili our guide was first class. Nikos cannot take you into the sites, he just gets you to the sites and provides information on the drive there. Vasili meet us at the Acopolis and stayed with us all day, traveling in the vehicle with us. The vehicle was excellent. Here is a photo taken when we arrived at the Acopolis entrance, nobody there other than us and the servicemen who raise the Greek flag.

We arranged a tour of Athens for 10 of us from the Celebrity Constellation on October 27, 2013. All arrangements were through Nikos Loukas, at PrivateGreeceToursDotCom, who answered emails quickly and sent clear and full information. Our driver met us as arranged, just off the ship, and gave us information about the sites as he drove us around. Drivers are not licensed as tour guides and can not enter sites with tourists, so we came prepared with our Rick Steves Mediterranean Cruise Ports book and downloads of his Acropolis and Agora guides on our Ipad to use once we reached the sites. Our driver got us quickly to the Acropolis, before the tour bus crowds. He also made sure we saw the changing of the guard ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. We had time at the Ancient Agora, The Temple Of Olympian Zeus and the Pantheatic Stadium. We made a stop at the Acropolis Museum, but the lines were way too long, so we just took time to see the ancient ruins outside that are being excavated. They are covered with glass floors so you can look down into the proceeding excavations.

One of the highlights was driving up to Athens' highest point, Lykavittos Hill, and seeing the wonderful view of all of Athens spread out before us.

We did so much more than the cruise ship tours, and at a much better price. We had a very comfortable Mercedes minibus for our tour rather than a big bus and lots of people. This was a wonderful tour through Nikos at PrivateGreeceToursDotCom and we recommend them highly.

  • 9 months later...

We just returned from a 12 day cruise about the Norwegian Spirit, which included a full day stop in Athens. Prior to leaving for our cruise, we did our research and booked a full day private tour in Athens with Private Greece Tours. All our communication with the firm prior to departure was wonderful, and all done via email. The responses were quick, and everything was simple.

We were met at the ship by Mikas, our driver for the day. Mind you, in Greece (as in many other places) drivers are NOT allowed to go with you through the various sites - they are not licensed tour guides. But with Mikas this really was never an issue for us, as whenever we arrived at a location, Mikas would walk us through all the traditional tour guide information, and prepared us very well for what we were going to go see.

Mikas seemed to know everyone wherever we went - including the military folks at the Changing of the Guard at the palace. He took us to the furthest reaches (one of the distant hills in Athens) for stunning panoramic pictures of Athens, with the Acropolis in the distance, and the sparkling sea behind it.

He took us to a wonderful area for lunch, and while not recommending any specific place (I am always leery of a driver taking us to ONE place for lunch), what we found was an array of marvelous small cafes. Lunch was wonderful. Then, on the way back to the ship, Mikas took us by an amazing pastry and desert place - we just had to have our Baklava! When we returned to the ship, Mikas gave our daughters a book that he had signed for them.

Truly a WONDERFUL experience. I recommend Private Greece Tours VERY highly, and would always ask for Mikas!
