kcwingwalker Posted December 6, 2013 #26 Share Posted December 6, 2013 Very easy. When you meet your butler mention you would like him/her to unpack your luggage. You can tell them any preferences you might have about locations etc. They will do it as soon as they have time, which is usually right away. Great service and butlers seem to really enjoy providing this service. Also remember your butler with perform just about any service you ask, within reason. This must be your nicest reply:)
david_sobe Posted December 6, 2013 #27 Share Posted December 6, 2013 Never asked a butler to unpack. But I have asked for one to floss my teeth. Just joking ;)
NMLady Posted December 7, 2013 #28 Share Posted December 7, 2013 HA - I want my tip too for all the packing and unpacking I do! hmm, what should I tell the hubby my going rate will be....... I read this to my husband and he said he'd take me on the next cruise with him. He hasn't been on a cruise without me yet. After all, I'm the one who does the packing. jaxjag8 Posted December 8, 2013 #29 Share Posted December 8, 2013 I will be in my first suite in January. I was wondering the same thing. I plan to take advantage of all that the suite offers and might just have them unpack for me. I'll see how I feel at that moment... But just wondering what is a packing cube? marelind Posted December 8, 2013 #30 Share Posted December 8, 2013 I am the one who had posted about my elderly mother who used the service. My husband and I had sailed in suites on Norwegian several times and never used the butler for packing/unpacking. But we knew that the butler will accommodate when possible, and Norwegian has that as a specific perk listed in all their literature. (It really fries me that people get snarky and sarcastic about an honest question.) Two years ago we had had a terrible embarkation, then the muster and by the time the bags came my 87 year old mother was exhausted, and the rest of the family were ready to go to dinner. She asked me if the butler would help her unpack. I said, "You can ask him." She did and he sounded like he already had too many requests with the usual mad dash on embarkation day when everyone wants something from the butler. He said he would try to get to her in about 20 minutes if she could wait. He arrived about 20 minutes later. She sat on the bed and took her things out of the suitcase and directed him where to put them. He then put her suitcase under the bed and escorted her down to the MDR where the rest of the family was at dinner. If this is the thing that makes you feel like a million bucks, then ask the butler if s/he has time to do it. I personally wouldn't expect it as embarkation day is exceptionally busy for the butler, but if they have time and you really want it, then ask. It really helped my mom a lot. Stickman505 Posted December 8, 2013 #32 Share Posted December 8, 2013 We'll be in a suite next year with butler service offered. After reading the above posts, I'm thinking we can unpack ourselves but would definitely consider having the butler provide the departure packing. We could separate the unmentionables from the items to be packed, to avoid that awkward situation, and would then be able to see how a professional would pack our items. I'd probably take a picture to use as a future guide. Thanks for asking the original question.
