Morea Before or After

On the Pacific Princess in April.

Looking at flights from LA, they all seem to arrive around 5:30 a.m. in Papeete. So I imagine after clearing customs, gathering luggage etc, it will be around 7-8 before we get out of the airport.

One option is to fly in a day or two early and make my way to Moorea, and stay at the Hilton.

The other option is to get in, stay somewhere Cheap (if you consider 200 a night cheap), and make our way to the ship the next day.

The final option is to get off the ship one day early in Moorea, and go stay at the Hilton for a night or two post cruise, rather than spending a day in Moorea, and then getting on the ship at 5pm, to circle the ocean one last night before we disembark at 7 am the next morning..

And then of course the flights don't leave that night until 11 pm... so it's a long day.

If we get the princess Transfers from the Papeete airport, what do they do with us with all that time left, or do they just leave us at the airport for 12 hours with nothing to do?

Thanks for any and all suggestions / Information

We have done the Paul Gauguin cruise in the region 3 times. IMHO I would not get off the ship and spend a night on Moorea during the cruise. You are paying for the cruise and it seems like a waste of money. If at all possible arrive a couple of days early and head to Moorea. We were there last month precruise at the Hilton and it is spectacular. You can take the ferry quite easily to Moorea and on your return you are on the adjacent dock from the cruise ship.

If you decide to simply stay on Tahiti for the one night consider Fare Suisse, a basic but nice small place within walking distance (not with your luggage) of the waterfront. About $85 euros per night for a basic air conditioned room and they will pick you up at the airport or ferry at no charge and drop you after your stay at either. This is a significant savings.
