Cruise Cash Questions...

Just wondering if anyone has purchased the cruise cash that is now available through the fun shops on the Carnival website, and how it worked for you? It looks like a good option to give to friends & family who are cruising, but I want to be sure it works well before diving in. Any experience with this out there?

Thanks!

I don't have experience with it, but just make sure you don't buy more than you absolutely know you will use. It's non-refundable, so any credit you have left will be lost at the end of your cruise.

Another option is Carnival gift cards, which, if not fully used, will go back onto a gift card for use on a future cruise.

I have used them for a cruise I have already gone on and have also bought some for my upcoming cruise. I agree with a previous reply, do not buy more than you think you might spend. I have bought about $100 less than what I plan on spending on the ship, to leave a little wiggle room. I like to use them for budgeting reasons. The cruise cash is not confirmed anywhere on your booking under manage my cruise or anything, so I have printed out the purchase confirmation and take it with me, just in case. The amounts show up as credits on your S&S account when you board the ship. If you do not use the entire amount purchased on your cruise, you can always add casino credits and cash out at the pursers desk. I think the casino frowns upon this though.

The carnival gift cards appear to be a good option, but I believe there may be a fee to purchase them??? (Less than $5, but still a fee).

There's no fee for purchasing gift cards. You can buy a "gift card tin" for $1.95 (and possibly shipping added on), but there's no fee for either the physical card or the emailed gift cards.

Edit: I may have jumped the gun with the "no fee"... There's no fee for the emailed ones, but there may be a shipping fee for a physical card. Also, it appears that some retailers might carry them in store, so check the gift card rack at your local grocery or "big box" store.
