Hotel Experiences for the Newark/Bayonne area as a family?

We are a family of four leaving out of Bayonne on the Voyager of the Seas cruise in Sept. I was wondering if anyone had any hotel experiences or wisdom to share that would help us determine where to stay. We are flying into Newark late the night before the cruise, and do not have ANY experience with the Big Apple. Frankly, it is a little intimidating;). At this point we are planning on getting to the dock early unless someone can suggest something we should do first. Anyways....any experiences from a family with hotels in this area would be great! Thanks!

Bellacruz, since your flying into Newark late it would be a lot to go into the City and then onto the ship. I would do exactly as you planned and just go to the ship early. If you had a day early then you could always go to Liberty State Park and take the ferry over to the Statute of Liberty and Ellis Island. As for hotels I don't have any info but check this board I know I've seen hotels for that area.

Thanks Jeepers...I appreciate you taking the time to respond. I know I've seen that the Hyatt Regency is nice..but I need to do more checking as to the rate as we will be getting there about 10:00 or 11:00 at night and leaving early in the morning. Thanks again....
