Snorkeling in calm, clear waters -which beach?

I have read so many reviews and am getting quite confused about which beach would have the best snorkeling in calm waters. Can anyone recommend the best ones on the island? We would prefer that it be in Philipsburg, if at all possible.

At this island, I would think you would want to do a snorkel excursion.

 

 

The right off the beach best place to snorkel would be in Roatan.;)

Thanks for the suggestion, but we were looking for a beach where we could easily swim and possibly snorkel a little. We are doing an excursion in St. Thomas, so Dt. Maarten is on our own! :)

Personally I would suggest researching a beach and choosing that first with snorkelling as a bonus because like the other poster mentioned St. Maarten is not known to have very good snorkelling right off of the beach.
