Hi everyone,

 

We are new to RC and was wondering the following questions:

 

1.) What hotels do you recommend near the port of New Orleans?

 

2.) If we drive there, is it better to park at the port and pay their fee or will hotels allow us to keep our car in their lot if we stay at both ends of the cruise?

 

3.) Has anyone ever taken a rum runner in their luggage and it make it to the stateroom?

 

4.) Can we take bottled water on the ship with us when we board?

We stayed at Drury Inn. Great Happy Hour and Breakfast.

Just off Serenade last week. I can help with answers to Questions 1 and 4.....in red above. We loved New Orleans and Serenade. I'm sure you will too! :)

1.) What hotels do you recommend near the port of New Orleans?

If you are driving, you may want to consider staying in Metairie, LA. It's only 10 mins from downtown NO. Most of the hotels in the DT area of NO charge for parking and are much more expensive than Metairie hotels. On average, hotels in Metairie are about half what you would pay in DT NO. (of course, depending on where you stay)

2.) If we drive there, is it better to park at the port and pay their fee or will hotels allow us to keep our car in their lot if we stay at both ends of the cruise? We have always used the Fulton Place (or Fulton Street?) parking garage. It's across the street from the Convention Center. They take you over to the port in a bus and pick you up there. It's 12.00 p/d and the port parking is 16.00 p/d, so you save around 30.00 parking there. (for a 7 day cruise)

 

3.) Has anyone ever taken a rum runner in their luggage and it make it to the stateroom? Sorry, never tried. Have no idea.

 

4.) Can we take bottled water on the ship with us when we board?

I've read where folks did get on with water and I've read where the agents said no bottled water allowed. I guess it's up to who is working that day! :rolleyes:
