Low Sodium Menu

Does anyone have information they can share regarding HAL's low sodium menu? Is it a special menu that is the same each night or the same as the regular menu but with no salt added? Also, if anyone has tried items on the menu--are they tasty or too bland? My mom has to watch her salt intake. Any comments will be welcomed. Thanks!

HAL may well have a 'low sodium' menu, but I have never seen nor heard of it. In any case, both DH and I have hbp and DH had a heart attack last year and is very careful with sodium.

 

Neither of us thought HAL food was highly seasoned or salted and never had any worry about sodium with the menu selections. HAL food is most often described as bland, if anything.

They do have a low sodium menu, as well as Kosher, etc. I just don't want to sign up for it if it's really tasteless.

One of our tablemates was on a low sodium diet and the Maitre'd or one of his assistants used to bring her the menu for the next day's dinner each evening and she would choose what she wanted.

 

I would speak to the Maitre'd or one of his assistants as soon as you board the ship and they will take care of you.

While I can't answer about the menu, I can offer the suggestion that anyone watching their sale intake should drink bottled water, not tap water, while on the ship. Tap water on board is de-salinated sea water, and it does not taste salty, but I understand the process does not actually get all the salt out. Some people even complain of water retention when on cruises. So order bottled water at meals and buy bottled water to drink in the cabin. Avoid the iced tea and lemonade served on deck. I'd say avoid coffee in the morning, too, but can't imagine doing that :eek: .
