Perth to Fremantle Best Way?

Recommended Posts

Tsk Tsk Fishtaco, you should know how to spell "Quokka".:D

If Kana boy was here longer than just a couple days I'd say go to Rottnest if they really wanted to but honestly by the time they got there and back that's a whole day gone basically.

I reckon a ferry from Fremantle into the city then up to Kings Park would be much nicer then the train back and the next day before getting on the ship explore Fremantle.

Ferry from Barrack st would be nice but your arrival time would be a hindrance!

Believe me a taxi is your best bet;)

I live in Perth and can tell you our public transport system is beyond 3rd world compared to the East! No trains or buses from the airport, Airport shuttle to CBD and surrounding area hotels then a walk to train ride plus the luggage haul from Freo station to hotel, you would have wished you had just caught a cab for a few $ more:D

The route from the airport to Freo is straight forward as we don't have the Eastern States traffic to contend with so in most cases the fare doesn't change much any time of the day/night

A Cab can also be a "Mission" in itself at the Domestic airport with long lines from returning FIFO workers but its still your best bet and the only way I would go.

If you had a leisurely early arrival time a cab to Barrack st Jetty and a ferry trip to Freo is a world class river experience for cheap!

Perth Public transport Sucks:D But Taxi,s to and from the airports are a continuous flow! Try and get a cab in Perth Suburbs and you are paddling up hill because they all do the airport runs 24/7 for the FIFO,s.:)

Somewhere along the road over the past few years the world forgot about Perth travellers and residents in favour of the mining boom and money that comes from its workers!

Get a Taxi:)

Thank you for this great post !

We will also catch a cab - and will see what to do next day

We arrive at Perth airport at 3:35pm on Monday, Feb. 23rd so that puts us on our way to Fremantle during rush hour traffic. We may just try the shuttle since it is still day light and enjoy the scenery and mini tour of the area by shuttle.

Aloha and thank you all for the input.

Cheryl & Richard:cool:

Seeing as it is some time off - why don't you put $10.00 (or equivalent) a week away in a little pot/purse - then you have you taxi fare and some ;) I do things like that - spare coins etc. :p Then you don't have to stress about dragging luggage etc. The distance from the International Airport to the cruise centre is 27.1 kms or or 16.9 in old money (miles) I googled it ;)

Doing that you could save for another cruise given enough time.:D

First day catch a cab to Fremantle from the Airport and settle in your hotel second day catch the ferry up stream on the Swan river to Perth City then get the train from Perth back to Fremantle. Perth has free Cat bus,s around Perth CBD and there is a Trolley/Tram bus that takes you to Kings Park and the Casino complex.

This is a cheap river trip every tourist to West Australia should do.

If you have time you can continue up stream on the Swan river to the Swan Valley wineries, the ferries do wine tours and tastings.

Only those tourists that have done the river trip Perth to Freo or Freo to Perth understand the Beauty and attraction of so many to Perth;)

There are other ferry operators that do these trips but I just listed the most common and longest established so may not be the cheapest!

Given time the ideal way would be to catch a cab Airport to Barrack st Jetty and ride the ferry from Perth to Fremantle but the cab to Perth will be almost l 3/4 of the Airport to Fremantle cab fare.

I live close to Perth CBD and have done this ferry trip with luggage and the staff onboard have no problem storing your luggage unless its a lunch/dinner ferry trip.

They use different ferries for different trips so the basic is a seated in row ferry with commentary of the sights, if coming from the airport and heading to Fremantle this is the one I would do. They are not "Commuter ferries" but tourist ferries designed especially to go slower and take in all the sights;)

$10/week, $520/year, say $4000 for a cruise.

You can look forward to your cruise in 8 years!

Hee Hee - I only do it for the transport costs - and I reckon if I have a cruise in 12 months - I can transfer/transport in style from A to B (Airport to cruise port and return that is - not airfares ) We are doing it now so we can leave the car in the Queens car park at Fremantle for the 4 days (call it 5) of our mini cruise in April 15. The taxi fare is $84.00 one way from where we live - $168.00 return. The car parking is $13.50 a day x 5 = $67.50 - no contest - even if car parking went up $10.00 a day before we go :D

Sorry - I do have a propensity to waffle at times :o
