It does look dark (I believe both your pics are the foyer, whereas the Solstice pics are dining room and foyer). However, that can be a function of the ship design e.g. the P&O ships also have dark foyers as there's pretty much no natural light that gets in there. Solstice on the other hand has a massive skylight above.

It's interesting you show the Solstice dining room though. Although the picture you took shows it well lit, for whatever reason Celebrity took to making the room barely lit at dining times. The main table chandeliers were turned off some days, and you only had the halogen dimmers on very low. All at our table commented on it; it was actually quite annoying. Not sure if they're trying to emulate the trendy 'eat in the dark' restaurants or what!

Actually the difference is to do with the colour of the timber. CS has very dark timber in the public areas, much of which is carved extensively. To me it all made it seem extraordinarily "moody". Solstice uses lighter timber, aluminium and glass.

I don't think I experienced the light dimming you mention in the MDR ... I always found it marvelously subdued.

This pics are not mine... I just grabbed what I could off the web.

cheers

I am loving this thread. We leave on the 28th of May on the CS. I'm going with low expectations so we should have a ball! So long as there is a chair in the adults only area I should be fine!

Sapphire57, yes the FB page you have found is the correct one. Sorry for thinking it was Oz instead of Australia. There is a guy on there called Phil who is a wealth of knowledge and will answer any queries. We are booked on the same cruise next June (well hopefully). Hubby isn't too well at the moment with lung problems but hoping he will be fine next June - we will be celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary. :o

Thanks, i have joined the FB group and will probably ask a tonne of questions before cruising.

I hope hubby is better by then, the warmer weather should be good for him. We were hoping to be able to celebrate our 26 th wedding anniversary onboard but alas the cruise sails 2 days after ours.

I have started a roll call if you would like to join it we can converse there.

I have just booked a mid year 2105 cruise with Carnival out of Sydney Aust on Spirit. Not having sailed with them before I want to learn as much as I can. I have cruised RC only once so not a seasoned cruiser. What should I expect??

Unless you want to do otherwise expect a good time.

My wife and I are in our middle 50's and both enjoyed our trip immensely.

We have been to the islands before so did not get off at every stop but it was nice to re-visit old friends.

As some say the décor is tacky and the large gold/brown urns got me, but wait till you see the main theatre. They should have held the comedy in there its that bad.

The food was on the whole is good, except they cannot cook a sausage. I asked my wife if I could go into the kitchen and teach them but she would not let me.

We had an aft Vista suite which was magnificent, with a really comfortable bed.

The turbo tub was nice as was the separate bedroom. Would suggest this style of suite.

There were plenty of kids, drunks and loud people on the boat, but none of which were a bother. The one really loud drunk was on the first night and we never saw him again, think he may have visited the lockup.

All in All a great time, Tendering was slow but you have to expect this.

Enjoyed it so much we are heading to LA in August to catch the Carnival Legend to Sydney on its repositioning cruise.

Have a great cruise, you will enjoy it

Dale

Thanks Dale.

The more I read from past cruisers the more excited I am getting. I have seen a few videos on utube, so I have an idea what to expect with the decor. I think I can handle it.....just!! :D

I think there will be kids, drunks and loud people on every cruise, as long as there's somewhere we can escape them.

We have booked a cabin on deck 7 midship with an extended balcony so we are looking forward to having our own view.

Not having been to this area of the world we will be getting off at each port and having a look around even if its just to go swimming. When it gets a lil closer I will research what to see at each port.
