Cruisin'K Posted June 12, 2014 #1 Share Posted June 12, 2014 My husband has just started receiving oxygen. He uses two small cylinders a day, so to have enough, we would need approximately 12 to be safe. How do you handle this situation? Thanks for any info. CruisinKibble Posted June 12, 2014 #2 Share Posted June 12, 2014 Portable oxygen concentrator. If you brought bottles on board you would need to bring spares in case the ship / you are delayed getting home.
SadieN Posted June 12, 2014 #3 Share Posted June 12, 2014 The Cruising Disabled Board has tons of info about oxygen.
cruisercathy Posted June 12, 2014 #4 Share Posted June 12, 2014 My friend is on Oxygen 24/7. She calls her oxygen co, and they deliver a concentrator (for room use) and then tanks for being out.....to her destination.
Teris50 Posted June 12, 2014 #5 Share Posted June 12, 2014 if you are flying, you have to check with the airlines about this also.
cruise_girl2002 Posted June 12, 2014 #6 Share Posted June 12, 2014 if you are flying, you will need a portable oxygen concentrator with spare batteries. you will also have to sit in the window seat (this is in case there is , god forbid, an emergency, others wont trip over the tubing, straps etc). Cruisin'K Posted June 13, 2014 Author #7 Share Posted June 13, 2014 Thanks for the responses. The disabilities board answered most of my questions. Thanks for that info!!
mrstriceasnice Posted June 13, 2014 #8 Share Posted June 13, 2014 I used to make these arrangements for my traveling patients. Call your oxygen company and ask to speak to the person in charge of traveling oxygen arrangements. They will set it all up for you.
jaw070701 Posted June 13, 2014 #9 Share Posted June 13, 2014 I've travelled with my dad while he was on O2. Even over to Europe - its doable and not that hard. There are companies that specialize in providing equipment for travel - make sure you have an RX from your doctor first. And make sure if you are flying that the POC is approved for use by the FAA & the airline. There is usually a form to fill out too (signed by Dr) for the airlines. We rented a large in room POC for sleeping and in room use and then a small portable POC (about 10 lbs) for daytime use. His normal POC was too larger (about 15-20 lbs) for comfortable day tripping. We used the small one which was delievered right to Dad's home for the travel to Europe and excursions. We had enough battery power to last about 12 - 14 hours. The large in room was delivered right to the ship. Easy Peasy! Good Luck!
