Caribbeansunrise Posted July 3, 2014 #26 Share Posted July 3, 2014 ......Will be getting the DAN coverage for DD and I, as DW will not be diving also Thanks again Happy Days! Might want to check the non-diver coverage for your wife. It would pay to get her back to your home in case of any sickness or injury.

S&M in Pgh Posted July 3, 2014 #28 Share Posted July 3, 2014 I have done the refresher course on board after an extended absence from diving and felt it was very beneficial. However, doing the in the pool exercises on a rough sea day is very challenging. Its not just the water on the surface that is moving, you slide around a lot even at the bottom. Was kind of fun really. Mike
geocruiser Posted July 3, 2014 #29 Share Posted July 3, 2014 (edited) I got my Open water C-card from PADI in 1984 from a Scuba store in NYC. We had classes two time a week (class room and pool)for six weeks. Each pool and class room class was over three hours. So it was at least six hour a week. Then we went to a quarry in PA for a week end of diving. The next week end we spent out on a boat doing ocean dives to complete the course and get the card. Just tell you this because there is a lot to learn. Your life depends on it. Just my two cents. Edited July 3, 2014 by geocruiser
sogy Posted November 17, 2014 #30 Share Posted November 17, 2014 I just got certified: I posted my experience here: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showpost.php?p=44755750&postcount=16 It does take a good amount of time. I guess it was a blessing for me because it rained the first 3 days on my cruise, so being in a classroom, or just reading didn't' bother at all. that and i was feeling a bit queezy. i believe if i wanted to get the full open water certification, i had to do two more sections and two more dives. but i wanted to see the ruins in cozumel, so i didnt' get the full certification. however, maybe it's my comfort level, but i wouldn't want to a dive without a divemaster/ instructor anyways, so the PADI scuba diver was good enough for me.
