Kiwi_cruiser Posted August 27, 2014 Author #2 Share Posted August 27, 2014 I think this is the first time Pacific Jewel has been to Apia and this is the first time P&O have been to Apia for a very long time.... We where meant to go Apia on the Pacific Pearl in 2011 on the Tahitian Treasures cruise, but because it was going to be a Sunday there, northing would be open, so we instead spent an extra day at another port. A private charter, that explains why she has been in Apia for a few days. Thanks for the info.
Kiwi Kruzer Posted September 2, 2014 #4 Share Posted September 2, 2014 She is there for the whole week. Its a $40 Million United Nations Conference to discuss the future of the Pacific Islands. Thousands are attending and the ship is being used as a floating Hotel. Many Australians and NZers are there enjoying the local hospitality. It takes place every 10 years in a different location. I trust all the delegates , and hangers on , are having a good time and are enjoying spending our tax money as they solve the problems of the world over a few drinks in the bars on board. . ...:D:D
Sandielle Posted September 2, 2014 #5 Share Posted September 2, 2014 We were booked on one of the cruises cancelled for this charter. Can't help wondering who chartered the ship - it certainly must pay P&O well, to cancel cruises.

Can't help wondering who chartered the ship - it certainly must pay P&O well, to cancel cruises. The United Nations chartered the whole ship and are on selling the cabins. Its a great deal for them as although it sounds expensive at over $250 US for an inside cabin , they are supplied with Breakfast , Lunch and Dinner and all Hotel facilities , and they can accomodate a couple of thousand delegates in the one place. Click on Kiwi-cruisers link above , it gives details of the charter.
