Oasis of the Seas Barcelona - Italy - Barcelona Live Review?

Recommended Posts

We have arrived into Rome. (Can't remember the port name off hand, begins with C). I had to cancel my visit to Rome today due to a problem with my ankle which means I can't walk for long distances. Instead I am going to do some Olive tasting. I will come back to Rome one day and discover it in more time.

The one thing I have noticed is I can feel the ship moving side to side. I am movement sensative so can notice it more. My table companions haven't noticed it.

Civitavecchia.

Actually, it is not Roma (which is at 1 hour of distance or so), but they call it Civitavecchia / Roma (Cruise marketing, I guess).

Sounds about right. I am useless at remembering proper names... however I am glad to be off the dingy for a change. I needed to start walking in straight lines again. :o

Are you doing the ship's sponsored "Olive Oil Tasting Tour"? We are scheduled to do that in October. Would be interested to hear your opinions.

Thanks

Day 6 of my holiday - Day 3 on the cruise.

Apology for the lack of summary yesterday. I decided to go for a walk in the morning on land. I started to walk side to side (like a drunk who doesn't drink) on the ship so I needed to get onto land as soon as possible and walk in a straight line.

My original plan for yesterday was to do the "Exclusive Rome Tour". Sadly, my ankle wasn't behaving itself (which happens from time to time) so I decided to do something less vigorous and did the Olive Oil tasting.

In short, 4 hours is enough to do a quick tour. For those who like to do some souvenir shopping on their excursions, avoid going in the afternoon, as most shops are closed due to a 3 hour siesta. There were a couple of shops open, but not many. If you are looking to do a quiet tour, go in the afternoon.

The first stop was to a location where they grow Olives that are specifically grown for making Olive Oil. A fact for you (something I didn't even know!), the Olives that are grown for making oil isn't the same type of Olives you eat. These ones have more oil inside and are more bitter (pre-processed).

We had some food (Bread with Olive Oil, Bread with Tomato and Olive Oil. Various bits of other nibbles and sauces) tasting as part of the visit to the Olive farm and also had a brief introduction to the process of growing and manufacturing wine. The location does have a shop if you want to buy some Wine, Extra Virgin Olive Oil and other fresh produces. (I say fresh, but they are safe to take on the flight home, and you may be required to declare them on your customs form).

We went to a town a few miles away (Sorry, I forgot to make a note of the name) where we saw some historical sights of some churches (I think they are called St Johns and St Mary's). The location does have some nice panoramic type shots. As mentioned earlier, there are not many shops open in the afternoon, so this was a quick stop for us, even though we had about 30 minutes spare to do what we wished. (The opening hours of the shops during post summer may be earlier, but I don't know for sure).

We took the scenic route back to the ship and got back around about 6pm.

I forgot to mention this. There were around 5 to 8 other ships in port today along with the Oasis of the Seas and also 1 car ferry. I lost count of the ships as I was walking along the port whilst flirting with the traffic and admiring how small the other ships are. If people think Oasis is a boat (or a dingy), the other ships are more like makeshift rafts. :o

There are shuttle buses that go from the port to the town, which takes around 7 minutes at most. Walking is around 40 minutes. I didn't stay in town for long, but I got an shuttle from outside the shops to the bus station for my return trip back to the Oasis after having a drink and a bite to eat.

After dinner last night, I had an hour spare and went to the Comedy Club. After the Comedy Club, I went to the Casino to try and lose some more money. I failed. I broke even again before coming back for sleep. If you do the med cruise on the Royal Caribbean and you get some British Comedians, please note our humour is not the same as American Humour. It's more perverted and just different to American style humour. I would suggest watching a few Youtube clips (other sites are available) on Adult British humour before deciding on booking the Comedy Club.

Sorry for the lack of photos yesterday. I will try and get some done on the last Sea Day before our return to Barcelona.

Day 8 of the Holiday - Day 5 of the cruise.

Not much to report today. Went to the Captains Corner, and there wasn't much to report that hasn't been said already on here about Dry Dock. In fact, the Captain was very tight lipped about the changes, other than saying a few maintenance changes and re-organising the dining arrangements. Make of that what you will.

Sadly the internet connection is unstable today, so I can't upload any new images to the internet to share with you. I will write a full post-cruise review with pictures when I get home.

I would ask if anyone had any questions, but I fear that I won't be able to answer, therefore I am happy to open up the discussion to anyone who wants to ask the questions and who may have the answers.

Please don't ask if there is Margeritaville or anything similar at any of the Italian ports. 1. I don't care. 2. I haven't bothered to look. Also don't ask if they have done any of the changes on the ship already. 1. This is my first time on the Oasis, so I wouldn't know if they have done any changes yet. 2. Except for any immediate "High Priority" fixes, it is unlikely that any major changes would have taken place whilst the passengers are on board.

Before I forget, it appears that there were some minor issues with the ship getting into and out of one of the ports, but sadly I can't remember. Possibly Naples.

Any questions regarding what I did pre-cruise or any of the ships Excursions, please feel free to ask.

Probably seems like a silly question, but electrial outlets and how many are there near the desk/vanity?!?

I've been on the Allure before and can't totally recall. I know many have mentioned bringing a small outlet strip, and wondering if I will really need it in November for when she returns stateside.

Thanks!

Enjoy your cruise - Sounds like you are having a wonderful time exploring!

As I recall, there are 3 US type outlets and 1 Euro type outlet on the desk.
