Bowsider Posted December 8, 2014 #1 Share Posted December 8, 2014 Hi everyone - I'm sailing Dec 19 and have been allocated cabin 8031 on the Navigation Deck which is wheelchair accessible. We don't have wheelchairs (we did not ask for this cabin) but of course were delighted that we would get extra space. However on reading the reviews it doesn't look that good with storage taken out, odd shaped cabin, veranda with no privacy, no couch and from experience the showers make the whole bathroom floor wet. Has anyone experienced this cabin or similar and should we request a change? I have also written to HAL with these issues and the fact we don't have wheelchairs. RuthC Posted December 9, 2014 #2 Share Posted December 9, 2014 (edited) I am making an educated guess that you booked a guarantee cabin, instead of selecting a cabin of your own choice. That means that you gave HAL the right to place you in any cabin at the category you selected, or higher. Since it's so late in the game before sailing, HAL assigned an able-bodied person to the handicap cabin, as it had not been booked by someone in need of the special amenities. Have no worry that you are depriving anyone, as HAL is just trying to fill the entire ship at this point. If you don't like this cabin, you can try---try---to get it changed. If you booked through a TA, or a PCC, you can ask them if you can be moved elsewhere. Again, you may not be totally pleased with any new cabin HAL might provide. Or, it's also possible that all assignments have been made in your category and up, and there is nothing left to move you to. The only thing you can do now is ask. If you don't ask, you don't get.
