cruising Katie Posted April 3, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 3, 2004 This is our first time cruising where my husband will have to use a scooter. We would be interested in anyone who has been on this ship or any Alaskan cruise and has been on any shore excusions? He would be able to walk short distances (ie to a bus or train). Is it safe to leave the scooter unattended while on shore activities? Shore excursions seem to be rated as wheelchair accessable, does this also mean scooter? Thanks Kate
Splinter Posted April 12, 2004 #2 Share Posted April 12, 2004 I would definately not leave a scooter ashore unattended. Check with the cruise line. If the "accessible" tours are with a lift-equipped bus or van, some will be able to take the scooter on the lift (depending on it's size). Others may require you to put it in the luggage bay and walk up the steps to a bus. It just depends on the provider. There is no clear definition for "wheelchair accessible tours". In general, we have found Celebrity very accomodating (although we have not been on this specific ship). Check with their special services department prior to departure.
