friday109 Posted January 23, 2015 #1 Share Posted January 23, 2015 Just wondering - has anyone ever just walked off the ship & taken a taxi tour with one of the MANY taxi's waiting at the pier? What should we look for or beware of? Cost per person?? thankx for your input & comments. B.
mrobstad Posted January 23, 2015 #2 Share Posted January 23, 2015 The only island I'd be nervous about Is Roatan. St. Martin cabbies congregate in town, but they're pretty good about combining up folks yo hi to the beach. Tours may be different. CMM Posted January 30, 2015 #3 Share Posted January 30, 2015 St Martin was our last port and we did not want to commit to anything ahead of time. There is a large organized taxi area with maps of tour options and a dispatcher organizing things. We had an excellent tour in St Martin just by walking off the ship and approaching the taxi display area. See if Sonja is available she was articulate , informative, and fun to be with. Maybe we lucked out and got an extra competent person, so it wouldn't hurt to ask for her by name. We paid $30 pp to go to both the Dutch and French sides, with shopping, history, look out points, beach stops etc. It was suppose to be for 3 hours but she gave us 5 hour tour! There were six of us together, but prices were more or less depending on the number of people. Our driver waited in the lot with other drivers at each stop and we were free to stay longer or leave earlier- no problems all day. Very customized. We were there the beginning of October the slow tourist time.
kayleighgirl Posted January 30, 2015 #4 Share Posted January 30, 2015 thanks so much, we are leaving for our cruise in 2 weeks and I have been hesitant to book something, this sounds perfect, did you already have a group of six or did they just match you up at the pier? CMM Posted February 1, 2015 #6 Share Posted February 1, 2015 We were a group of six friends. They were not grouping people, but you certainly could ask others there to share. There was a board with the various routes for tours and then the price per person based on the numbers. Ours was $30pp based on six ,it would have been more for just 2 or less if we had 8 , but I don't know those rates.
