The guided tour of the Canyon Ranch Spa Club on the first day is not to be missed. We were shown all the numerous treatment rooms within the spa and introduced to the staff that demonstrated some of the various treatments available and told us of the benefits, we even had a complementary 5 minute Thai massage, which was excellent

On the subject of the Thai massage demonstration, be prepared to be used as a demonstration tool.. My wife and I were escorted through the different rooms by a member of the Canyon Ranch Staff, each room was occupied by a member of staff receiving treatments from the various specialists and technicians who detailed their methods and explained the benefits. But when we looked into the Thai massage room, there was no demonstration in place just two young and attractive Thai women sitting on a queen sized bed. Both my wife and I were immediately lead onto the bed and asked to take our shoes off, I was told to lay on my front and suddenly my legs were in the air and one of the women was sitting on the flat of my feet and was massaging my back and head, It was great, fortunately my wife was with from the start and did not walk in to find me in that position with this young woman. After all I didn’t even know here name!.

I was quite interested in the “Gentle Touch” teeth whitening treatment @ $199 I had only 3 days before been to see my dental hygienist and had my teeth cleaned and polished but thought my nashers could do with being a shade or two lighter .

I was told that the treatment would be a one off and would not require any other treatment except the application of GTW enhancer which should be painted on your teeth for fourteen days after the initial treatment. I was also told that I could eat and drink what I liked immediately after the treatment unlike other forms of teeth whitening which require you to avoid red wine coffee and other dark food and drinks for a period after treatment.

I booked the treatment for the following day and after reading the consent form I noticed that it was recommended that I avoid red wine and coffee and other dark food and drinks, this was contrary to what I had been told by the technician the previous day. I pointed this out to the technician who simply said this is what we recommend

I decided to go ahead with the treatment which lasted about 45 minutes sitting in a chair with my feet up and a plastic mouth piece exposing my teeth, not very comfortable I might add, but after 5 separate 7 minute blasts with the blue light extended arm placed against my teeth I was shown with a sample of false teeth the difference of before and after shade of my own teeth. I was offered a special offer price of a years supply of GTW enhancer which I declined, and was given a complementary 14 day bottle to complete the treatment.

I was advised that I would experience slight discomfort for a couple of days together with the possibility of bleeding gums, but I found it very painful for at least 8-10 days after the treatment every time I cleaned my teeth, and my gums bled quite a lot.

I think there was a slight difference in the colour of my teeth, but I am not sure if it was worth the discomfort I experienced.

The cost of the treatment included a complementary entrance to the spa which I attended with my wife who had already purchased a 5 day ticket at a cost of $79. The spa was excellent with a dry room stream room and aromatic steam room. The pool was nice and refreshing and the Jacuzzi relaxing. We were given dressing gowns and plastic flip flops and there was an abundance of towels.

The changing area was excellent with all the toiletries you needed including cotton buds/balls and disposable razors.

My only criticism was it was smaller than I would have expected considering the amount of passengers onboard, but providing you used the spa at the right time (mid morning to early afternoon) it was well worth a visit.

My wife also used the gym everyday and was very pleased with the equipment available, she was however surprised that there were no members of staff available to explain to new gym users how to use the equipment.

There is sports staff in the Spa area, but they were either coaching passengers who had booked one to one instruction or involved in the fitness classes. and not in attendance in the machine room.

Overall impression of the Spa and fitness area was excellent.
