Private excursion companies

We have taken several excursions booking through the cruise lines but several years ago actually booked through a private excursion business. It was owned and operated by an American who had moved to the islands and catered to travelers. He offered many of the same excursions you could book on the cruise but at a much lower price. I don't recall what island he lived on or the name of his company. Does anyone have a private company that they used in the past w/good results? And yes... I am aware of the "if they run late and you miss the boat you are out of luck" but there are lots of companies who provide good servisce and I would like to research this. We will be on the Carribean Princess 10-8 sailing to St. Thomas and St. Maarten. Thank you!

skewsus...head over to the "Ports of Call" area and check out St. Martin and St. Thomas. There are many recommendations on those boards. I got good info over there for our Nov cruise.
