Evergreen Trio on Grandeur

Recommended Posts

I heard the Evergreen Trio is no longer on the Grandeur. Does anyone know the story to this? They were a great band and had so many people dancing and listening every time they were playing. When I talked to them, they said they loved the Grandeur and being home ported in Baltimore.

Curious minds want to know......

Hi Gwen,

Just returned from Grandeur and prior to our cruise, I posted a thread about current bands and someone said they were "let go"...

If you go to their facebook page they won't post publically the reason, but seem to indicate they would share more via personal messaging.

So many lines are cutting entertainment and using more passenger driven venues. Also, the are onboard entertainers are being required to do more then what they were used to in the past. $$$ saving moves!

I.E...The aerial show is now being incorporated into RCCL entertainment, where certain dancer's have been trained to perform instead of using an outside company that specializes in this.

Not sure if it's fleet wide though...

I had the opportunity to be on board for their first showing, since they stopped months ago I spoke with the main support operator, he confirmed and agreed to how it came about...very interesting...;)

Performers seemed very "tentative" .

Personally,I will be looking for different ships in the future... But hey, it's a Bermuda cruise!!!:)

Thanks Mike. Now that you mentioned about the entertainers being asked to do other duties outside their entertainment duties, I remember our last cruise in Feb. we boarded the ship right after a noro outbreak. All the entertainers and other personnel were serving the meals in the Windjammer. The Evergreen Trio being part of that. They weren't too happy about it either. That might have been one of the reasons. Maybe they refused to do something along that line. Not sure I blame them. I'm sure they didn't sign up for that. Forgot all about it until you said something. Thanks.

The grandeur used to have three bands. Caribbean, evergreen and Casablanca. Miami has decided to remove one band leaving only two. Those two bands work hard. In the centrum they now play a lot more jazz instead of dance music to save the singers voice. Also a lot less music and longer breaks. Casablanca also left rcl and moved to another cruise line. That was there choice.

Thanks. Not happy with that.....I hate jazz. Guess I won't be spending much time in the Centrum, if that's the case. Oh well, I don't cruise just for the music anyway. But, I did love Evergreen's music. I wish them the best and hope they find another cruise ship to work on. They were great.

Was Evergreen, the group with a younger woman who just sang, plus a man who played a horn and an older woman who only played the piano? Only in the atrium area? They were from Eastern Europe?

They were a decent sound, and many people liked to sit on all the levels and listen to them. Too bad.

We never went for the lounge entertainment particularly, but it was nice to have sometimes.

When attractions are not needed to bring people on the boats anymore, they will eliminate them. This will go for all the minor activities on board also, as our last year's Caribbean cruise was even short one activity personnel they admitted.

Eventually things will reach an equilibrium.

The Grandeur now seems to almost sell out all the time, being driveable by most of us east coasters. They certainly won't add anything back that lowers their bottom line.

No, it wasn't. There were 3 of them and they played in the Centrum in the evenings. "bananawindnj" described them right. I've never seen them play poolside.

Gwen :)

I concur.

As someone else said, Nadejda posted on Facebook that they weren't sharing the reason publicly. Kind of sad that in April, she posted a picture of dinner with the captain, said they were honored to be invited as it showed recognition of the work and respect for them. Nothing like setting them up before they get the screws put to them.:(

With Evergreen Trio gone, it's not a matter of "loss" for me, it's a matter of looking elsewhere for my cruising needs. I've been to at least 40 cruises, 4 of them in the Grandeur with the Evergreen Trio. To me, they are the best amongst cruise lines (incl. Cunard).

I will probably be cancelling my next Grandeur cruise, already with deposit, just because of this. Quite frankly, I'm a relatively good dancer. I've done "all" of the Caribbean, and have done this Dec itinerary, so the only thing pulling me to re-do is/was the Evergreen Trio.

BUT.... unlike most on here, I don't give up easily and if we make enough noise, AND the good dancers that used to go on Grandeur, don't because ET is no longer, Royal Caribbean will hopefully reconsider. ;)

I sincerely hope that RCCL reconsiders their decision to not give Evergreen Trio another contract. As a member of their fan club, we are so so disappointed in the decision. They are the best of the best. There are no other trios that play such diverse music. We've written letters to corporate to request a decision change. All those that love the trio, p,ease do the same. Send all letters to the Miami office. Send to all execs and Robert Waterfield, specialist of contracted musicians. If we all write and express our disappointment maybe they will hear us. I did receive a call back regarding my letter, but I think it was just to placate me. No decision to change their minds. Let's get a united front and let RCCL how we feel.
