don_ken Posted September 19, 2005 #1 Share Posted September 19, 2005 Taking the River Odyssey in November. Where do river boats dock relative to the old area of the city? Is it walking distance?
pacmom Posted September 19, 2005 #2 Share Posted September 19, 2005 Last summer 2004, we ended a 3 week cruise on Uniworld's River Countess in Amesterdam. We docked close enough to be able to walk to the Red Lite district. As far as other places, I'd take a cab to their Central Train Station. It is also a tram hub. It is very esy to get around Amesterdam--just watch out for the bicyclists. We stayed at a Renaissance Hotel. Tram stop a block away. Train station about a ten minute leisurely walk. don_ken Posted September 20, 2005 Author #3 Share Posted September 20, 2005 Thank you. This gives me a feel for what we can get to easily. Don
JimC Posted October 10, 2005 #4 Share Posted October 10, 2005 We took a Uniworld cruise which ended in Amsterdam. I seem to recall that there were train tracks between the ship and the Centraal Station, which is the transportation hub. It was an inexpensive taxi ride to our hotel about 5 minutes from the station. Best to plan on that. We had to arrange prior to disembarkation with Uniworld so they had the taxis there. npphotog Posted October 10, 2005 #5 Share Posted October 10, 2005 Went with Vantage this past August on the Odyssey. The Odyssey is docked behind the main train station. Really convenient location. If you get in early they will put you up in a motel out of town until you board at 2pm. You will have a great time with Vantage. First class all the way. Food is great along with super tour managers.
