AVAD Posted September 7, 2015 #1 Share Posted September 7, 2015 We are looking for Rome alternatives in Civitivechia on a Monday and recently read that someone took the train to Grosseto and enjoyed walking around the town. It looks to be about an hour via train and if anyone has been there, I would love some advice. Thanks
Rare Hlitner Posted September 7, 2015 #2 Share Posted September 7, 2015 Have you looked at the train schedule? While it is only about an hour ride, there are no trains after 7:41 until the 10:47. Also keep in mind that some of the trains (i.e. the 10:47) are Intercity which means you need reservations (not always available at the last minute). So if you cannot make that early train it might not be the most efficient way to spend your day. DW and I stopped at the city a few years ago (while on an extended driving vacation) and remember it as OK, but nothing that has drawn us to return on future trips. On the other hand, its an OK place for a day trip and a larger city then some other popular alternatives such as Orvieto. As I recall there are some nearby ruins that were located well outside of the city. Hank
