Star Princess- Mediterranean cruises 2004 - question

BJS

Recommended Posts

For those of you who have received any documents are there any visas required? I know Turkey requires a visa but have read in the past the ship provides them for those on Princess shore excursions in Kusadasi. Read on a past post that someone had gotten their visas.

Thanks for the help. We won't get any docs for a while and was wondering about the cost.

Hi BJS!

We were on the Golden last June for the Med cruise. When we boarded in Venice, Princess kept our passports. The evening before we arrived in Istanbul, we each received a Turkish card of some sort that we had to take ashore with us. When we came back to the ship that evening, we had to turn it in at the gangway. The next day we were in Kusadasi and we didn't have any "cards". Maybe the one on the day before was good for both ports. (I can't remember if we got our passports back before Kusadasi or not.) Anyway, we didn't have to buy visas. I'm guessing Princess took care of all that for us!

Oh, and we didn't do Princess tours in either port!

You'll have a wonderful trip....I still look back at that cruise as our best vacation ever!

Happy Sailings!

Wow, we could write a book about this!

According to the Turkish consulate, no one (doesn't matter what country you're from) needs a Visa if you are going on a cruise and visiting Turkey this year.

Because this is a by-way-of-Turkey travel situation. The Cruise does not begin or end in Turkey. And because the itinerary does not stay there for longer than a day - so the guests do not stay overnight ... basically there is no need for a Visa ... for anyone!

Naren did have to get a Schengen Visa for the other countries we'll be visiting. However, in our situation, he had to get the Visa for the country we're spending the most time in. So, our cruise calls on 4 ports in Italy, and we're staying two nights extra in Italy ... so to the Italian consulate we went.

We gave them the documents required by their consulate, and they gave us a Schengen Visa valid for 18 days, multiple entries.

Any more visa questions? Don't hesitate to ask!
Happy Sails,
Jen

Hey fellow cruiser!

According to our travel agent, there is a "generated" sheet which comes in the pre-cruise documentation, and in all travel documentation because the Princess people assume that you are a US or Canadian citizen when sending out that paperwork. Its best to double check with Princess (and with your consulate if your passport is not from the US or Canada) as to which documentation you will need.

Any questions, Just ask!

Hi Jen!

Great wedding pics! Looks like you had a wonderful time in Hawaii!

In regards to the Italian visa for Naren...I'm guessing he holds a passport from another country? (I don't mean to be nosy, just wanted to clarify things for BJS..) U.S. citizens don't require a visa for Italy as long as you're visiting for less than 90 days.

We were in Rome for 3 days and Venice for 2 days prior to our cruise, and had 3 ports of call in Italy. The hotels kept our passports for a few hours at check-in, and notified the police of our stay. This is apparently the norm for all US citizens at arrival time.

Again, I enjoyed your wedding pics! I'm envious of all of you heading across the "pond"!

Happy Sailings!

No visa required for Istanbul, UNLESS you fly in or out of there.

We flew in there in June 2001 and were sent directly to the window to pay our $40 - $USD accepted - for our Turkish Visa.

I have a review of our Grand Med cruise posted here at CC for the Golden Princess - the first Golden review received here I think.

We had a GREAT guide for Turkey!

Hello

Thanks for the note about our wedding pics. Naren holds and Indian passport. I need no visas. He neeeds a visa to go across the street! (Well it seems like it).

You can come across the pond with us. I hear there is still room on our Star Princess 5/16 sailing!
