Recommended Posts

Just returned from a wonderful 11 night Southern Caribbean cruise on Serenade. Thought I'd share some photos, tour suggestions as well as the cruise compasses

Erik, was Rita's Cantina still available on the Serenade, and if so, did you try it? I was told they closed these down but I saw in your posts of the Compass, that it mentioned Rita's Cantina. Thanks a bunch.

My Pleasure. Yes Rita's is still open on Serenade. I had dinner there one night.

The pictures look great. We were interested in trying this place, and I was disappointed to hear it was closed, happy to find out its open as we like to decide on our own if we like something or not. Love seeing your pictures. Sounds like you had a nice cruise. Thanks for posting all the information.

As far as I'm aware, it has only closed on Allure and replaced with Sabor. Rita's Catina is still open on Radiance, Brilliance and Serenade.

On Radiance however, during the summer months (while in Alaska) Rita's Catina becomes Rita's Crab Shack. which I really enjoyed.

Thanks again Erik for the review and awesome pictures, as well as the compass.

Just wondering if there are any must do's or must see's on Serenade? Or any little tidbits or must know's that you can offer? This will be our first time on Serenade as well as Radiance Class.

I really appreciate your live postings on fb and all the awesome pictures.

Beautiful pictures! Enjoying your trip.

Ok, time for our little car crash in Antigua.

myself and several others from the roll call booked a tour with Lawrence of Antigua. Recommended by a friend here on CC. Great reviews of trip advisor etc.

If you've sailed with me before, you know I'm easy going, I'm a chill cruiser, easy to please not a complainer by any means. And I do understand accidents happen. More than sympathetic in a case like this but I feel I need to put this out there because I feel this was very very poor judgement on Lawrence's (owner of Laurence of Antigua) part.

It was around noon time we had pretty much finished the 'tour' portion of our trip and headed to the beach. We had just left the Naval Dockyard, all of us are on the bus chatting, asking Lawrence questions, he is talking to us, blah blah blah. All of sudden somebody in our group was asking him a question and Lawrence went completely blank. It was like he completely blacked-out. All of sudden BAM. He hits a pick up truck that was oddly parked on the side of the road. The pick up truck goes rolling back and knocks over a poor woman. Lawrence completely "blacked out" keeps driving unaware that he has hit a car. It was until a good quarter mile when someone in our group made him stop the van and we all got out and showed him the damage. Only then did he realize that he hit someone. By that point there were some witnesses that chased us down and then called the police.

It was apparent that Lawrence was going to be a while with the police so we had him call us a taxi (or one of his other drivers) to get us back to the ship. Some us were pretty shaken up by what was going on so we all collectively decided to cancel our beach plans and just go back to the ship.

The next day while on the ship, I received this email from Lawrence which is why I feel disappointed. Clearly, you're taking some kind of pain medication, maybe his doctor failed to warn him, who knows but I kind of feel common sense failed here. Am I wrong?

Not wrong at all. I work as a region safety manager for a transportation company and although this refers to the US and DOT regulations, drivers are required to report want they are taking. But also trained that even over the counter medications can effect their driving.

Common sense: Don't drive when taking any meds.

I've been on pain meds for my back....knocked me out. That said, all meds are different.

What types of musical groups were there on the Serenade? Any jazz in the evenings? String groups?

Thanks,

Sailing Grandma

I don't recall any Jazz. Mostly Guitar and Piano hits in the Centrum and Schooner Bar. dance music in the vortex.

They also had a Caribbean group up by the pool deck.

Very true, and different people react differently to meds. I guess Lawrence maybe should've let someone else do the tours until he knew well how the medication was going to effect him.

Wanted to share some food pics. I really don't do the MDR (except the occasional breakfast and lunch here and there) I stick to Specialty Dining, maybe 1 or 2 windjammer nights. I purchased the 5-night dining package which was a good deal. Dined at Giovanni's twice, Izumi twice, and Chops Once under the package. I used my D+ Bogo for Chops and Giovanni's for nights 1 and 2
