norboy76 Posted February 10, 2016 #1 Share Posted February 10, 2016 I do not know if this from a ship. I found it at a thrift store and got it because of the anchor emblem. I do not speak whatever language is on the back of the plate, I hope someone can help me identify it. http://wildelf34.deviantart.com/art/Mystery-Plate-589821530
brianlojeck Posted May 14, 2016 #2 Share Posted May 14, 2016 If I remember correctly, the marking on the back is called a "chop" (phonetic spelling) and identifies the person or company who made it. I'm not savvy enough to tell Chinese from Japanese kanji, but having the characters in the square like that is, if I'm not mistaken, Chinese. brianlojeck Posted May 14, 2016 #3 Share Posted May 14, 2016 Did a little googling around, found some references that this MIGHT be a symbol from the Chinese navy... but based on your filename it looks like you knew that already. Interesting question... Perhaps an old navy man, or a professor at a local Uni might be a good lead?
cruising cockroach Posted June 13, 2016 #4 Share Posted June 13, 2016 (edited) As said on the site you posted the photo on, it looks like it is from the Republic of China a.k.a. Taiwan. The stylished sun is the same as you'll find on a RoC flag. Edited June 13, 2016 by cruising cockroach
