CaribCruiser54 Posted March 8, 2016 #1 Share Posted March 8, 2016 (edited) Wondering about the option of booking a "Guarantee" room online. If I select a Guarantee Oceanview (Y) and pay in full, how long does it take to get your Room assignment? Also, is it possible that you could get a Balcony room for the same price if there are no "guarantee" Ocean view staterooms available when RCI tries to do the match. Or conversely, could they downgrade you to an interior room as long as a room is provided? Edited March 8, 2016 by CaribCruiser54
RadioRob Posted March 8, 2016 #2 Share Posted March 8, 2016 When you book a Guarantee, you might have your assignment in an hour or you might have it the night before your sailing. It just depends on what's going on with that particular sailing. You could end up with an oceanview room, or you could end up with something "higher". You could end up with a balcony or even possibly a JS. (It's not likely, but folks have reported it happening.) A guarantee means you will have at LEAST that class of a stateroom. So you won't end up with an inside room. However you don't get to pick what deck, where on the boat (front/back/middle), etc. Once you have an assignment, if it's a US-based reservation, you can typically swap for another room in the same category assigned. (So if you got a D3 balcony for example you could try for a different D3 if one was available if you did not like the position.)
RadioRob Posted March 8, 2016 #3 Share Posted March 8, 2016 By the way... when I mentioned "higher", some folks might not consider certain locations an upgrade. For example, you could end up with a balcony room right under the pool deck. If you're a light sleeper you might not like that assignment as much. (Or being right under a bar, or MDR, etc.)
CaribCruiser54 Posted March 8, 2016 Author #4 Share Posted March 8, 2016 Thanks for the clarification. Not much of a gambler/Don!t like surprises. I'll probably stick with something midship, even if it means no balcony :-)
