Golden upgrade question

I have booked a very nice deal on the 10-10-04 Golden Princess. I decided to go with the JJgty and hope for the best.

 

I know the ins and outs of upgrading but I was wondering how far up some of you have gone from these lower catagories. Thanks!

On our first Princess cruise( Grand 04/99) we were upgraded from a cat K to a balcony cabin on the Baja deck!!!!!!!It was wonderful, and we only found out a week before leaving!

On our last cruise (17th/04 Golden) we only were upgraded from the lowest to highest balcony cabin, we did however have the choice to get an upgrade to a mini suite or get 250 dollars back. We chose the money. Watch the prices just before final payment, if they drop then contact your ta and work a deal.

Thanks pg - You give me hope that I may not end up inside!

I noticed that the BD category was showing at only $377 more than I am currently paying (must be some kind of sale since it's cheaper than some lower categories) I have contacted the TA to see if I'm correct and might bump to it now.

I hate to put the upgrade fairy in perspective but feel I must comment that booking a JJ and even 1/16 hoping for a balcony upgrade is a very good way to be disappointed.

 

Most upgrades from inside are to inside, say about 90%, to a better deck. The line will move you up depending on open space and in October you may have a decent shot but hoping and expecting are good ways to feel shorted on the first day which should be a very happy day no matter what. Our last three cruises we got exactly what we paid for and weren't bothered a bit by it.

That's why the advice "Never book a guarantee for anything you wouldn't be happy in" is so true. I have had both things happen - massive upgrade and minor bumps. Thanks!
