Biking Guernsey

Hello. Has anyone done an excursion involving biking Guernsey? We are wondering about the type of roads and if helmets are available. We are experienced bikers. We consider 6 miles a very short ride. We don't bike without helmets. We will be on a Princess cruise. We would love to do a nice, relaxing bike ride but not one where there is a lot of traffic. Rather than booking an excursion, are biking tours available at the port? Thanks for your help.

We hired bikes from a little rental shop just across from where then tenders drop you off.

The first part of the road (we headed east) was a dedicated cycle lane, which ran out after about half a mile. You then had to mingle in with the traffic for a little way around the coast road and then it got much quieter with nicer routes.

We cycled for about 4-5 hours, no idea how far we went but aside from the first 10 minute I don't remember the traffic being an issue.

We did take a strange route on the way back and ended up going up the world's biggest hill (too steep to cycle). But the pay off was a fantastic zero pedal down hill back into town.

Hope this helps!

We did a bike tour that used the same company that post 3 referred to on the dock. I think our tour was a ship's tour, but it may have been private. It wasn't expensive. The ride was about 15 miles, but we had stops. The bikes were mountain bikes in good condition and the route was relatively flat with a few modest hills. We were issued helmets.

The route avoids heavily motor traffic and in some places uses a separate bike trail. It visits some WWII German fortifications, an ancient tomb, several hundred year old church and other interesting places. We liked the tour and it gave us an opportunity to see more of the island.
