To Elvis or Not to Elvis

Elvis Presly made alot of resort specific movies in the 60's.

Alcapolco

Hawaii

specifically.

Do you think these movies are:

Silly escapism?

Travel Channel forerunners?

Garbage?

other?

I just watched Blue Hawaii, loved it, DH was counting the minutes till it was over.

But I loved the music, Hawaiin, Spanish, Calypso, and rock-n-roll. DH and DD hated the lipsynching.

I watched this movie for the first time when I was about 8 or 9, I loved it. and my neighbor had the album. We would dance aroud to it.

So what do you think of these cheesey movies.

So to those who think this should be posted elsewhere, bah humbug!

What the heck do you think inspired people to travel in the first place?

Don't you realize that the movies were usually our first introduction to foreign lands?

I remember being fascinated by movies such as "Lawrence of Arabia", "The King and I", "South Pacific", "A Passage to India" and "Casablanca".

Tell me that these and other movies; including Elvis's; didn't give us an urge to travel and explore.

So as far as I am concerned, Elvis and his "Blue Hawaii", etc, are wonderful. And did I mention the man could sing?

I was born in 67 so I only got 10 years of live Elvis.

But I remember watching Blue Hawaii when I was about 7 or 8, and just loving the movie and music. It seemed rather corny tonight and all the music was lipsynched.

But the Locations!!!! For those of us going to Hawaii, what a great treat. OK it was 44 years ago, and the Coco Palms was wiped out in Iniki in 1993, but oh those locations!!! Just beatifu. And interesting to be able to compare the Waikiki of 61 one 2005. And the music, "Rock-a-Hula" and "I Can't Help Falling in Love". And like I mentioned before variety of music from authentic Hawaiian to Calyspso to Spanish.

As far as Acapulco goes, the first time I ever saw the cliff divers was in "Fun in Acapulco".

Elvis show in Atlantic City. The show was almost two hours long with an excellent singer who had Elvis down pat. The show is authorized and recommended by the Elvis Estate. Not a lip sync. Also have always had good luck on the Elvis Slots.

First saw cliff divers on ABCs "Wide World of Sports" on Saturday Afternoons with Jim McCay. They used to have competitions every year if I remember correctly.
