crusader Posted May 18, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 18, 2004 Hi Folks, Have read about some folks being picked up downtown at the cruise terminal. Is anyone aware of which company( or companies) will pick you there and take you to the airport to get the car.. Are there any companies in walking distance of the terminal where a shuttle is not needed. Leaving this Saturday on the Diamond. Looking forward to a great week in Alaska. Hope to meet all ... natesfirewife Posted May 18, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 18, 2004 We went to Juneau last summer and had a blast. I don't know if I would rent a car though. The City is surrounded by the ice field so you can't really get out of town. Although the Mendenhall Glacier Park and Visitors Center was pretty cool. I think you can rent a tour for that. The pier isn't all that far from the airport. See if the rental car people will pick you up. Misty Roll Call for the Grandeur 12/18/04. srphnx Posted May 18, 2004 #3 Share Posted May 18, 2004 There are a number of small stalls right in the parking lot where the ship puts up gangway, one of them was a car rental outfit and they were reasonable, the city is surrounded by ice true but there is about 20 miles of open road and that is a long walk stuffed with three breakfasts and two lunches. Budget Queen Posted May 19, 2004 #5 Share Posted May 19, 2004 Rent a Wreck has down town shuttles. Actually there is about 40 miles of road. Determine WHAT you wish to do?? A car may be less desirable for first timers who don't know the area or what great touring options there are?? You need to inquire from each rental agency for their current shuttle information- it used to be NONE of the majors shuttled- adding about $40 in round trip cab fares. If you are looking at Mendenahall glacier the $10pp shuttles may be a better option.
