Sapphire Beach

Going to be in St. Thomas next week and are probably going to do Sapphire Beach, couple of questions:

 

What should it cost me for a party of 5 from Crown Bay to Sapphire?

 

Do I need to tell the taxi drive where to drop us off at the beach? If so, where?

 

Which part of the beach is the best spot to set up camp? We will look to do a combination of swimming, sunning and snorkeling.

 

How long do we need to give ourselves to get back to the dock at Crown Bay?

Taxi is about $22pp round trip, they will drop you near the dive center where you will pay for lounges and any other rentals. You'll see a shaded area along the water to the right of the dive center as you face the water. If there is space there that would be our preferred spot. That's a rockier section and the reef is out that direction. The sandier swimming section is over in front of the dive center, and there's also a sea grass area beyond that. If you want to sun just go to the other side of the dive center. Taxis will stop in to pick folks up for the return, it's probably a 30 - 40 min drive through the returning traffic but we'd allow a couple hours jut to be safe.
