Falmouth Jamaica Taxi Rates, Bargaining

Our family group of 32 just got back from the Harmony of the Seas Western Caribbean Thanksgiving sailing.

I just wanted to share our experience with the taxis at Falmouth.

The first lady we encountered offered us "all day" (4-5 hours in reality) taxi service for $20 a head, which included:

  • Taking us to 3 locations and then the beach
  • Waiting for us at each location
  • And, lastly, of course, fare back to the cruise port.

When we agreed to the price, her "supervisor" came up and said that we were quoted the "wrong" price and that the employee was "new". She said the rate was $35 a head. We had a group of 11 people.

We didn't know any better so we accepted the rate.

When our entire group got back on the Harmony, we compared notes and experiences at dinner. There were some people in our group who got the $20 a head rate, for the same amount of stops and their group was only 5 people.

Personally, I think $20 a head is fair because we all offered our tour guides food and drink with our families. Plus, all of our groups threw in an extra $5 a head for tip.

Needless to say, be aware of this and be prepared to haggle! :)

Thanks for taking the time to post this. Very helpful!

What was the beach you chose to go to?

You're welcome! :)

We went to Aquasol Beach, Montego Bay, Jamaica. The cover was $5. Bathrooms from 1-10 was a 4. They did have soap and running water but no paper towels.

Beach itself was nice. Clear water, warm and calm.

Not amazingly gorgeous, 6.5/10. Restaurant staff were nice!

Definitely do not pay $25+ a head for all day, personal taxi service. $20 is fair. Give the driver extra $5 tip PER HEAD if they treated you well. We paid the most out of our group. I think the supervisor saw a large group and saw dollar signs...which is ironic because we should have more bargaining power.

Next time, I will just walk away if they won't accept $20 a head.
