Contact with Disabled Wife on RC Freedom of the Seas (Verizon Text / Walkie-Talkies)

Hi, My wife and I will be cruising in April on Royal Caribbean Freedom of the Seas. My wife is disabled and likely will need to rest in our cabin for periods of time. During such times, we need a way for her to get in touch with me anywhere on the ship if she needs my assistance.

We both have Verizon Wireless phones (LG G3 & G4), so can we use the VZW Cruise Plan and not be worried about data / roaming / extra charges on our bill? Really, all we want is to be able to Text each other so she can get my assistance or is not feeling well.

I know this topic has been asked in a somewhat similar manner by others, but haven't felt like there's been a clear / definite answer. Also, having no communication is not an option nor would I feel right leaving her for a hour or more and just checking back. Further, we really don't care about Data, Emails, etc...

Another option I'm considering is Walkie-Talkies, so interested in feedback from others on this as well.

Thanks!

hi there

I don't know what your options are with your cell phone plans. Someone might chime in, but I would suggest you call the company and see if they know what works.

As far as walkie-talkies, this subject has been discussed to death and what I have taken away from them is that an affordable technology is not available that works well.

hope this helps

have a great cruise

You can puchase a 2-device WiFi plan and text each other via an internet texting app, such at WhatsApp. This way you don't need any plan from your cell carrier, and you keep your phones in Airplane Mode.
