Just back from the Sovereign 11/7 - 11/11

Recommended Posts

We left the Sovereign yesterday. Our 4 day cruise (our first), was a learning experience. We now know several things, the "Do's and the Don'ts" and "Have and the Have Nots". Our cruise consisted of Cocoa Cay

"WONDERFUL" and Nassau "?". Unless you have a lot of money to blow,

Nassau can be a "BUST". Paradise Island is something I never saw because of the cost. We went to the Straw Market, not far from where the Sovereign was docked. It was an experience and you can find some terrific deals. There was a fight between vendors while we were at the Straw Market, one trying to steal the other vendors customers. The whole place went crazy when the fight broke out and there were police there in seconds, many of them. We went to Senor Frogs, did not do much for me. I ordered a Bahama Mamma $8.75, huge glass! The prices in their gift shop were out rageous. Again I will say the straw, even though pretty trashy looking, was a good place for small gifts to bring back. We walked over and over that area looking for the cigarette deals everyone on this site talked about. None. $44.95 a carton. The best deal was on the ship 2 for $36.95 only slect brands, none of which were close to the brand I smoke. I loved the Sovereign, the Casino, shows and all that food. I set myself no schedule and did what I wanted to do.

If I wanted to go off on my own from the girls I was with, I did.

Just as they did too. I love the fact that I could call room service

at 5 a.m. and order a pot of coffee. Going up on the deck above the pool early in the morning before there were many people moving around was soooooooo relaxing. All in all it was a great cruise and I did learn a few things. I will cruise again. I would like to do the Western Caribbean and

maybe the Sovereign again for a nice sort get-a-way for relaxation.

Everyone working on the ship was fantastic and very friendly. Our waiter

in the formal dining room (Mirage) was absolutely great. His name was George. Our room attendant Jaun was fantastic also. Everyday day he would do a different towel animal. Before the cruise was over we had

a Elephant, Dog and a Stingray. We were on deck 2, in a OV cabin.

Before the cruise I really wanted a balcony or Junior Suite, but the price was out of my range. Really the OV was great for myself and my friend.

So now I know I can cruise and It does not have to be the high dollar cabin, save your mony for the other things. The slots were my fascination. The first night I won $89.00 and walked away. After that it

was not that good, but I still had a great time in the casino.

All in all, I will go again. Just wanted to let everyone know, it is worth

it and enjoyable. I will write more of our experience later, there were some hilarious times while on the ship.

We are considering this ship for next October as with my family and my parents....

Did you have a regular ocean view or a superior ...the superior from what I have been reading is 157sq ft and the regular is 126sq and it is $50.00 more per adult...Do you think that it would be worth it for a 4 day?

Did they have a soda card and do they do a midnight buffet?

thanks so much!

:) Hello Cruisin Amy,

Glad you liked my review. We were on Deck 2, I was in cabin 2042.

It was an OV with porthole, 119 sq. ft. That is the norm for regular

OV. On deck 6 the cabin maybe be a little bigger, no much though.

It has a almost rectangular 3ft. window. To get anything bigger

you would have to go to a Jr. Suite with sliding door and balcony.

For my friend and myself 119 sq. ft was plenty. At first before I even got on the ship, I just knew I would not be happy with a porthole. But I was wrong. The room has ample space for 2 adults, we did have to get them to pull the beds apart when we got there. Which made the room look

so much bigger. I am already planning my next cruise. I was also worried about getting sea sick, never happened. My daughter was in cabin 2525

on Deck 2, it was an inside cabin. It seemed smaller and so enclosed,

I don't think I could have handled that. Someday maybe I will be able to book a balcony, but I would be satisfied with an OV anytime.

I will say again thet the staff on the Sovereign were some of the nicest people I have ever dealt with. So efficient and do their job to a T.

If you have any questions get back to me. IT WAS GREAT!!!!!!!

Sorry, I forgot to tell you about the buffets. Just about every night and they also had a Chocolate midnight buffet one night also. I did not do the soda card. You can have all the tea, coffee and lemonade you want.

I saved my money for the specialty drinks everyday. I will say the tea was just a little bland though. The little mini bar on the dressing table

is refreshed at least twice a day. soft drinks are $1.50 and bottled water is $1.99. I did drink a few cokes and a few bottles of water. For me that was not a huge charge, but if you have kids or several people on your sea pass it could get expensive doing it that way. Remember room service is at no charge except if you want to tip. I loved calling for coffee or

something light like a fruit plate or sweet rolls. But believe me you really would not want to order a meal, maybe just snacks.
