mints Posted February 6, 2017 #1 Share Posted February 6, 2017 Good afternoon everyone, I'm going to be on my second cruise ever in a few weeks and while doing research I came to the realization that Cozumel has their own celebration for Carnival. For anyone that might have been in town for it on a previous year how hard is it to move around, are shops open still? I've dealt with it for ages at home and now my way around and how to avoid getting caught up in parades if I don't want to, but this time I'm going to be a fish out of water and have no grounding on what to do if I don't want to be in the crowds. smokinmike Posted February 6, 2017 #2 Share Posted February 6, 2017 Carnival is a big deal in San Miguel - the parade causes street closures on Melgar and a few of the side streets. Last February we had dinner at Guido's and they were nice enough to move some chairs outside so that we could sit and enjoy the parade. I wouldn't depend on a lot of shops being open - the parade is after most of the cruise ships have departed and many folks want to participate in the parade or watch. The parade's a big family thing - many kids are marching, dancing, or riding on floats. We had a good time. smokinmike Posted February 6, 2017 #3 Share Posted February 6, 2017 I neglected to say that most everything is open during the day. The big celebration is at night. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
mints Posted February 7, 2017 Author #4 Share Posted February 7, 2017 Thanks! I'm just used to Mardi Gras in New Orleans where things basically shut down for the entire day. I was already thinking up alternate plans for what to do just in case things were hectic.
smokinmike Posted February 7, 2017 #5 Share Posted February 7, 2017 Much more family oriented Mardi Gras than that in NOLA - it does go a little late though and there are bleary eyes the next day. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
