We just did it last week. We booked it the day before we docked in La Romana, as we didn't know what we wanted to do. I think it started at about 10 am. Large open-air safari trucks take you on the tour. Honestly it was a lot of stops for shopping. A school/orphanage (to shop), a sugar cane plantation - this was cool - a local home....to shop. (I got stung by a Tarantula Wasp here and that ruined my afternoon), then onto La Romana itself .....to shop. It was fun to ride through some of the smaller towns to see them, but we've done this kind of tour in DR in the past and it was much better. There was no food to purchase, and it was just kind of a long day. (Wasp sting could have had something to do with it). We had someone with us who had never been there and she really enjoyed seeing how they live outside of the touristy areas.
