DaBook Posted February 7, 2017 #1 Share Posted February 7, 2017 Our ship leaves Oslo at 11 pm Saturday August 19th. Looks like most of the sites close around 5 pm. Any Suggestions for evening options... things to see / any late closings? THANK YOU!!
kaisatsu Posted February 8, 2017 #2 Share Posted February 8, 2017 At that time of the year, sunset is around 21:00, so you can do quite a lot in the evening. Vigelands sculpture park is open 24 hours, so I'd recommend saving it until after the museums close. If the weather is nice, you'll find a lot of people grilling and picnicking in the park. You can also visit the Akershus fortress grounds until 21:00, or the roof of the opera house.
Grant2000 Posted February 9, 2017 #3 Share Posted February 9, 2017 Because the days are so long in August, it's very pleasant just to walk around the downtown area or visit Vigeland Park. It's gorgeous at any time of the day! http://Oslo-Norway.ca/

jth999 Posted February 19, 2017 #5 Share Posted February 19, 2017 (edited) :) Yes, Viglan Sculpture Park is a must. I wasn't really bothered about it when I saw the shore excursion's itinerary, but the coach had a 30 minute stop there. In the end I could have stopped a lot longer, I'm not a great fan of sculptures normally, but these are amazing, over 200 in bronze and granite symbolising the circle of life. This is the reason why Vigeland displayed all the sculptures without clothes. He wanted them to be timeless instead of resembling people from a certain generation. Never have I seen statues which express so much emotion before. The park is open 24/7 so early evenings should be quieter and perfect for a gentle stroll. There are frequent trams from the city centre. Edited February 19, 2017 by jth999 adding photo
